Fur-equently Asked Questions

How does it work?

We are just like a regular café except you'll be enjoying your coffee and tea in the company of 13+ cats!

Our main offering is general sessions every half hour (e.g. 11am, 11:30am, 12pm, etc); last entry is at 5pm. There is an entry fee to spend time with our resident cats - $10 ea on weekdays (Tuesday to Friday) and $13 ea on weekends.

We have a range of hot and cold beverages as well as a small menu of sweet and savoury options which you can purchase to have during your session or you're welcome to take away at the end of your visit.

If you're just after a quick cat fix, you are welcome to purchase a takeaway beverage and/or snack and have a quick cuddle with the cats while you wait for your order to be prepared. Once your order is ready, you must leave.

Please note that anything you spend at BaristaCats goes towards the welfare of the cats and ongoing costs to keep the café running.

How much does it cost?

The entry fee is $10 ea weekdays (Tuesday to Friday) or $13 ea on weekends which gets you up to one hour with our furry family. Sweet and savoury options are available to purchase should you work up an appetite from cuddling cats! We accept cash, EFTPOS and major credit cards.

Do you have an age restriction?

Yes. To ensure the welfare of our cats - many of whom are older and/or have special needs -only those aged 10 years and over are allowed into the café in line with our SPCA welfare plan. We strictly enforce this so please do not be offended if we ask how old you are or request proof of age. Additionally those aged 10-14 years old must be accompanied by a supervising parent, guardian or responsible adult - please note this person is not excluded from the entry fee and they must be actively watching these younger guests.

Do I need to book?

With limited spaces in each session so as not to overwhelm our cats or overcrowd the café, we recommend booking online as we give priority to web bookings. For special events (e.g. cat yoga, movie night), booking is essential.

If you are visiting with a group of friends, you should definitely book. For groups of 9 or more, email eventsatbaristacats@gmail.com to arrange booking. You will be required to pay a non-refundable $50 deposit to secure the session day and time.

Please note that all bookings are non-refundable. If you wish to change your session day/time, we require 48 hours notice. Any change requests will be granted on a case by case basis at management's discretion.

Can I just show up on the day?

Walk ins will only be accepted subject to availability. If you are intending on visiting during the weekend and/or it's a group of you, we would definitely recommend booking to guarantee your spot as we tend to be busier on those days. For special events (e.g. cat yoga, movie night), booking is essential.

Do you have disability access?

Unfortunately no. Our café is located on the first floor of a historic building so you will need to be able to traverse the stairs to reach us.

What kind of food and drink do you serve?

We have the usual coffee fare (our beans come from local roastery beSpecialty) and a wide range of loose leaf teas from T2 and Stir Tea. We also have bottled drinks as well as smoothies and frappes from Thirst.

As for food, we have a range of sweet and savoury options (afternoon tea type nibbles like scones and tarts) supplied to us by Creative Edge Food Company. For a quick bite, we have Moustache cookies, Molly Woppy biccies and Kapiti ice cream. All food and drink are available to take away if you are just wanting to grab and go.

Where possible we endeavour to have options to cater to all dietary requirements.

Can I just pop in for a takeaway coffee and snack?

Yes, you're more than welcome to pop in to grab a coffee and bite to go! You can also have a quick cuddle with the cats while you wait for your order to be prepared but you must leave as soon as your order is ready and handed to you.

Are your cats up for adoption?

Our resident cats are residents of BaristaCats so are not up for adoption but the foster cats on site at the time are. We also have an adoption wall in our lounge area with cats from Franklin Cat Rescue who are looking for their forever homes.

Can I pick up the cats?

There are 4 cats who we ask you do not pick up due to their background prior to being adopted by us and/or disabilities - Banksy, Mango, Bryan and Gigi - who all happen to be ginger/ginger and white cats. They are also wearing bandanas that say 'please do not pick me up'.

As for the other cats, you're welcome to pick them up but if they do struggle (some of them don't like to be woken from their naps!) then please put them back down.

Where do the cats go at night?

All our cats are resident cats so they live at the café. We're so happy we get to provide them with their forever home!

Can I bring my own cat?

No, sorry - we are not set up for visiting cats and furthermore cats are territorial by nature so bringing a stranger cat into the mix is not a good idea! BaristaCats is a place to spend time with some very special rescue cats.

How do I get a job with you?

We are not currently hiring but if we are, we will post on our social media so give us a like, follow, etc and keep a close eye out!

I would like to write a story/ make a video on BaristaCats. Who do I contact?

We're so happy you're interested in writing about us! Please email Faith-Ashleigh our Marketing & Events Manager on eventsatbaristacats@gmail.com.
